A clean and vibrant Baltic Sea is in everyone's interest. Its shores and open waters are among the most cherished parts of our nature, and the Baltic Sea is also our gateway to the world. As a family business operating in Finland, Sweden and Estonia, we have a responsibility to care for the Baltic Sea. That’s why we give our Christmas present to the Baltic Sea and its well-being – we make a donation to the John Nurminen Foundation.
Eutrophication is the Baltic Sea’s most significant environmental challenge. Although nutrient emissions causing eutrophication have been halved since the 1980s, visible signs like massive blue-green algae blooms still plague the sea. We support the John Nurminen Foundation, which implements effective and concrete measures to protect the Baltic Sea and ensures that its stories are passed down to future generations.
The goal of the John Nurminen Foundation is to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage. Through its projects, the foundation improves the condition of the Baltic Sea by reducing its environmental load and tackling issues like eutrophication and biodiversity loss. Established in 1992, the foundation is also dedicated to preserving, enlivening, and sharing maritime stories and cultural heritage. Its work is guided by results and impact, and it is primarily funded through donations and grants. www.johnnurmisensaatio.fi
